A Few Simple Rules for Routing

But you can move a router in either direction along a workpiece, and there’s nothing in the tool’s design that clearly indicates which direction is correct. But there definitely is a correct way and an incorrect way. To use the “rule of thumb,” point your right thumb toward the piece, and push the router in the direction of your index finger. To figure out the correct way to move the router, you need to think about the rotation of the bit. When viewed from above, the bit spins clockwise. You can see that in the Illustration above.
